Colours|Maximum Size Registry entry

Specify the maximum file size of images (in kilobytes) for which the number of unique colours will be calculated when:

  • One or more images are added to the Multimedia repository

    -OR-

  • Selected records in the Multimedia repository are updated using the Update Resource command.

When an image is added to the Multimedia module, or the resource resolution of selected images is updated using the Update Resource command, the number of unique colours in an image is calculated and displayed in the Colours: (Image Attributes) field on the Resolutions tab.

In order to calculate the number of unique colours, each pixel in the image must be examined, and for very large images the time taken can be considerable (up to 2-3 minutes for an 8000 x 8000 pixel image).

The Maximum Size Registry entry allows a threshold to be set over which the number of colours is not calculated (the value is left empty) when an image is added to the Multimedia Repository or the Update Resource command is run on selected images (Multimedia>Update Resource>Selected Records).

Note: If the Multimedia>Update Resource>Current Record command is executed, the number of colours is calculated regardless of this Registry setting. This allows the value to be computed if required for an image that is over the threshold.

is the maximum file size of images (in kilobytes) for which the number of colours will be calculated. Images greater in size than value will not have the number of colours calculated.

This entry will result in all files over 1 megabyte (1024 Kb) not having their number of unique colours value calculated:
